No alcoholics are not forced to use alcohol. Nobody makes them consume alcohol to excess.
Alcohol can cause harm to a third party but again only where alcohol has been abused. Ie: Someone drinking and driving and then being responsible for an accident that hurt someone else.

Child porn is banned because it involves the sexual exploitation of minors who have been co-erced into doing it by adults.
The distinction between adult and child porn should always be pointed out when anti-porn moralists seek to link the two together!
Cars, alcohol and cigarettes can cause harm but that harm is caused by people who misuse them (eg: someone who drives dangerously or consumes alcohol to dangerous levels) and people are not forced to use/consume those things.

I always say that if children are looking at pornography it`s because they are setting out to look for it.
They don`t just stumble on by accident. This image of "innocent" children accidentally being exposed to hard core porn presented by the Daily Mail and the right-wing moral guardians is poppycock.

Just been reading that the BBC have confirmed that BNP leader Nick Griffin will be on Question Time.

Case in point being Mediamarch who in their website list what they call "media fueled crimes" and include the Bulger/Child`s Play 3 and Pakeerah/Manhunt connections.
There was no evidence that these murders were in anyway linked to those games and films and in the case of Stefan Pakeerah it was just the view of his mother that the game was to blame for her son`s murder. Just been reading mediawatch-uk`s submission to Ofcom regarding the review of the broadcasting code. The rights of those who wish to view adult sexual material is (predictably enough) completly disregarded by mediawatch-uk who believe that it should not be permitted on TV at all, even on subscription channels...

Mediawatch say that this is the only sure way to protect children. I can understand the need to protect children from adult sexual material which is why I don`t believe it should be put on mainstream non-subscription TV. Nobody is condoning sticking R18 rated sexual entertainment on the BBC after Eastenders.
But there is a market for such material which means there is a desire amongst some adults to view it. Surely they should be able to via subscription channels where there are sufficient safeguards to ensure they are not accesible to under 18s.
Mediawatch-uk say that the only safeguards is mearly a box that people are required to tick too show they are over 18. Surely this is a load of rubbish and these channels have much stricter safeguards.
Most of them require a credit card number to be filled in so surely kids won`t be able to get access to them without nicking their Mum or Dad`s card.
Unfortunatly as we all know mediawatch-uk`s desire to stop adults having acsess to sexual material is little to do with protecting children from such material but their belief that people shouldn`t be looking at sex because they (mediawatch-uk) find it dirty and grubby.
On the issue of free expresion mediawatch-uk make a valid point when they say free expression needs to be balanced between protecting adults. But there would be no free expression if Ofcom adopted a broadcasting code that only permits the kind of programming the mediawatch-uk thinks is suitable.

The other day, while doing our weekly shop, I bought for my two children, Benjamin and Ofelia, a packet of Haribo Maoam lemon-and-lime confectionary. It was only after I was leaving the check-out that I noticed the appalling illustration on the packaging. This consists of a lemon and a lime locked in what appears to be a carnal encounter. The lime, who I assume to be the gnetleman in this coupling, has a particularly lurid and distasteful expression on his face.
I demanded to see the shop manager and during a heated exchange my wife became quite distressed and had to sit down in the car park. I was told to register my compliant [sic] with the manufacturer.
I`m glad I spotted this before my young children, who are both very sensitive. My wife and I have always tried to maintain their innocence -- and to think our years of careful parenting could have been wrecked by, of all things, a sweet wrapper makes me livid.
I received a reply from the company saying that the wrapper design had been introduced in Germany in 2002 with a view to making fruit figures `more modern and lively` to `better appeal to the consumer`.
It said: `At no point was it intended to create sexual images.` It had been shown to a number of children and adults of different age groups, none of whom has made any comments referring to sexual content.
I consider this response less than satisfactory. As a member of our local church, I`m now uring other members of our flock to boycott Haribo products until this illustration is removed.

I have been on a one man campaign for about a year now, trying to put an end to internet pornography. What instigated this was the way I heard young students aged 12 to 16 talking about the sites they visited and what they were watching. These were all overheard as youngsters seem not to care about what they discuss or who hears them.
I looked on the internet and was shocked and disgusted at what I found. I have done some research into what is available and found that all aspects of perverted sex can be found, totally free of charge.
Although the so-called models are said to be 18 years of age, some look much younger and this applies to the males and females. I wrote letters to all heads of government in Australia, USA, Great Britain, China, Russia and Poland - all countries supplying the majority of the pornography sites.
My letters and emails were forwarded to other departments, some of which acknowledged me but others did not. I wrote to our MEP and local MP with very positive results. I have since reviewed what is happening on the pornography sites and have found that a number are no longer accessible. Fantastic news!
However, do not forget that there are still hundreds of other sites. If everyone did as I have done and I am convinced that eventually we can rid the world of this cyber evil.
So what this nutter has done is gone looking for internet porn and because he`s been digusted by it he`s got some of the sites shut down by writing to MPs.
In other words he`s trying to stop people looking at porn on the internet just because he`s digusted by it.

I also add that the Daily Mail has a vested interest in pushing the view that TV and modern popular culture is causing the breakdown of moral amongst children and teenagers.
By blaming the media for violence and sexual activity amongst children and teenagers the Daily Mail avoids reporting on the real causes of such problems such as poverty, lack of education and unemployment.
This is because their, mostly Tory voting readership do not want to hear about such issues (poverty etc) being the cause of youth violence etc because they do not want to pay more taxes to help fund programmes to get young people out of poverty.
So they can think it`s not poverty and lack of opportunity the leads youngsters down the road to violence and crime but TV, video games, films and the internet.
And they can think that instead of redstributing wealth to the poorest people in society all we need to do is ban TV programmes and computer games and everything will be ok.

Let it be made clear that I do not codone prosecuting the Daily Mail or anyone else for spewing xenophobic bile.
I believe such bile should be challenged, debated and made to look like the rubbish that it is rather just banned. Banning views no matter how repulsive never makes them go away and it does not make those who hold such views change their mind.
I believe much of the Mail`s opposition to immigration is based on their own xenophobic suspecion of "foriegners".

Re the clamour from the Daily Mail for Brand and Ross to pay the Sachsgate fine.
Let`s say a well known TV personality had gone on air on a BBC radio programme and spouted the brand of xenophobic bile that the Daily Mail peddles everyday.
Went on about how this country is awash with illegal immigrants, bogus asylyum seekers and how rabid Muslims are trying to turn this country into a Shariah Law run Islamic state at every turn.
Then let`s say thousands of people rang in and complained and Ofcom investigated those complaints and decided that such comments were offensive and fined the BBC for allowing them to be broadcast.
Then anti-racist groups and groups defending immigrants, asylum seekers and Muslims demanded that the TV personality who made the offensive comments be made to pay that fine and demand that if he/she does not pay that fine than he/she should be sacked.
Would the Daily Mail back those calls and be one of the newspapers leading the calls for that TV personality to be made to pay the fine for attacking immigrants, asylum seekers and Muslims?
Or would they launch their brand of bile at "interfering PC liberal groups and freedom of speech hating Muslims" for trying to stop free speech and democracy.
Go figure!
Then let`s say the BBC agreed with those calls to make the TV personality pay the fine and made him pay the fine and then when he/she refused to pay the fine sacked him/her.
Would the Daily Mail applaud this and hail it as a victory for taste, decency and moral virtue?
Or would they bemoan it as another example of "POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD!" and hold it up as proof that there is some kind of "lefty PC liberal Guardian conspiracy" to prevent people from saying what is on "everybody`s mind".

Just been reading The Sun reporting how a "sick" publicity stunt for the game MadWorld has been condemed by the public.
They report that "bosses" at mediawatch-uk called for the game to be banned. Bosses? Since when.

On BBC Breakfast this morning they had a discussion about lads mags and proposals to put them on the top shelf and stick 18 rated stickers on them.
The debate featured a former magazine editor and some rabid feminist writer. The feminist woman tried to use the protecting of children argument as a justification for restricting lads mags but her main "argument" centered around how she`s fed up with seeing pictures of nude women everywhere and how people don`t want to see lads mags showing naked women when they walk into stores.
Seems much of the anti lads mags argument is all ME ME ME and I don`t want to see this and I don`t want to see that! That`s no reason to put lads mags on the top shelf or ban/restrict their sale.
When she was asked about pictures of topless women the feminist woman said "I`d be happy to ban it". She gave away perfectly what the campaign against lads mags is about. It`s about getting them banned completly. Once the antis get them on the top shelf and with 18 age stickers they`ll push for them to be banned completly.
The magazine editor bloke asked why something should be banned just because some people don`t like it. Fair question but he went and made himself look a bit silly by going on about how he doesn`t like cabbage but doesn`t try and stop anyone else from eating it and enjoying it.
But then the feminist woman went a made herself look a total moron by saying "Well we don`t say just because you don`t like child pornography we shouldn`t ban it!" Quite rightly the editor bloke took her to task for such a stupid thoughtless comment!

As usual our wonderful government comes to the conclusion that the only way to solve a problem is to ban something.
When are they going to wake up and realise that the cause of binge drinking and alcohol dependancy has nothing to do with cut price drinks promotions or "cheap" alcohol and is more to do with mental health problems, relationship breakdown and the stresses of modern day society which requires people to work to till they drop?
Banning drinks promotions and slapping huge taxes on booze to make the price go up isn`t going to help those with who suffer from cronic alcohol dependancy. All it will do is make them more likely to break the law to fund their addiction!
Nor is it going to stop people who drink in order to get so pissed they can`t remember who`s head they smashed into the pavement from getting smashed out of their skulls and getting into street brawls at two in the morning outside a nightclub.
Usually those people have more money than sense and will be able to go out and get plastered no matter how much their booze costs.
All these measures will do is penalise responsible drinkers who like a few bevvies of a Saturday evening in front of Match Of The Day or a glass or two of wine with their Sunday lunch.
Of course these measures (banning cut price booze and raising the price of alcohol) are products of the temperence neo-prohibitionist movement which is creeping over from the USA. They want a reduction in alcohol consumption right across the population spectrum (and not just amongst those who drink to excess) and believe this should be done by reducing the affordability and avaliability of alcohol.
Essentially what they want is everyone to become completly tee-total and they believe that the more alcohol costs the more likely people will give it up altogether.
But they do not realise that until we get to grips with the route causes of excessive alcohol consumption (mental health, depression, stress, unemployment, marital breakdown etc) we are never ever going to make the lives of those who drink in order to get through the day any better.

Been looking over Mediawatch-uk`s latest news section. In a report by the Sunday Express Beyer calls for Johnathon Ross to resign saying his position has become "untenable". He`s entitled to his opinion of course but the way the Express present his views as if they are the words of a man of huge importance and who`s opinions are listened to by broadcasters and presenters is laughable.
Beyer reacts to 400 complaints made to the BBC about Little Britain USA. He says it`s not his favourite viewing and questions how such things are allowed on TV in the first place. What does the forum think about the recent exposes in the press about members of the BNP being employed in the police and other services and calls to sack them?
Should someone be sacked for their personal political views? I`m not so sure.
I think there are some double standards here as some of the left-wing anti-racist groups who are calling for memebers of the BNP to be sacked from their jobs would not call for the sacking of say people who are memebers of Muslim extremist groups. Well it`s my day off work today and I have been watching Loose Women on ITV where they`ve been talking about lapdancing/pole dancing clubs.
Linda Bellingham came across as a right prude asking why the women who pole dance can`t just go and work in a resteraunt.
She seemed perterbed that men should be permitted any kind of sexual entertainment!
A couple of the others (including the Nolan sister from the Iceland ads) acknowledged some women choose to lap/pole dance and enjoy it.

pbr and Micheal G. Society in general is far less tolerant and understanding of men who kill in provocation than they are women. If a man killed his wife/girlfriend because he found out she had been having an affair hardly anyone would justify his behaviour and call for him to be sparred punishment.
But if a woman kills her husband/boyfriend because she found out he was having an affair lots of people (especially women) would be understanding and probably want her spaired jail.
A prime example of this is the case of Clara Harris who murdered her unfaithful husband by driving over him twice (even when her distraught daughter was begging her to stop!). Hatefilled feminist newspaper collomnists said she should be sparred jail and that her husband David was a dirty rat who deserved what he got! I doubt anyone would say that if the roles were reversed, they would be calling for the man to be given the electric chair. This was in America btw!
Back to swearing on TV. Notice MPs are summoning BBC bosses to answer about swearing. The Mirror seems to credit themselves with this. Oh how powerful tabloid rags think they are!

Actually freeworld Beyer has been largely silent on the actual actions of Ross and Brand. The only thing he said was that they should be suspended whilst an investigation takes place.
What Beyer has been voiceforous in doing is using the controversy over the matter to boost his own agenda and he has allowed himself to be used by the Daily Mail as part of their agenda against the BBC.
He was wheeled out to make comments about a comedian making fun of the Queen on Mock The Week which was totally unrelated to the issue of Ross and Brand`s actions and would never have been highlighted if the uproar over Brand and Ross had never occured.
I am not defending Ross or Brand and believe their actions was both misguided and wrong. I believe that the BBC were too slow to take action and allowed those who have an axe to grind against them to take pot shots and stick the knife in.
The BBC gave those who want to attack them lots of ammunition because of the plodding way in which they acted to rectify the situation.
But what pisses me off is the way this incident has been blown up to be the most important news story by other media organisations who have an agenda against the BBC when there are far greater problems that we as a society and a planet face today than two idiots "comedians" making prank calls to old men.

The whole outrage over the Ross/Brand thing has been enginered by the Daily Mail.
Only two people had complained before the Mail On Sunday reported what happened and that shot up to several thousand after.
The Mail has been leading the outrage because they have a huge axe to grind with the BBC and loath presenters like Russel Brand who they charge with "corrupting" youth.

I believe the licence fee should be scrapped but not for the same reason as the right-wing fuckers of the Daily Mail might want it scrapped.
I don`t see why we need to be forced to pay for a corperation that rakes in millions of pounds a year through over sees programmes, online entertainment and murchandising.

Mediawatch UK have a link to an interesting colloum by Ray Connoly in the Daily Mail about the use of the word fuck.
He doesn`t advocate out and out censorship and suggests there is a place for swear words in drama, which is quite contary to mediawatch`s views that there should be no swearing anywhere.
